A model is suggested to calculate the competition between complete fusion and quasifission in reactions with heavy nuclei. The evaporation residue cross section σER=σcPCNWsur is determined by three factors: the capture cross section σc, the probability of complete fusion PCN accounting the competition between complete fusion and quasifission in the dinuclear system (DNS) formed after the capture stage, and the surviving probability Wsur of the formed compound nucleus in the de-excitation process. The calculation of PCN is based on the DNS approach to the fusion process in which the complete fusion occurs when the DNS is shifted to a larger mass asymmetry by diffusion and tunneling. The diffusion to larger relative distances causes the decay of the DNS by quasifission. Fusion reactions Pb(HI;1n,2n) for the production of the heaviest elements with Z=104-116 are considered. The calculated results are in agreement with the experimental data.
