Measurement of virtual Compton scattering on the proton — •J.M. Friedrich — Institut für Kernphysik, Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz, J.J.-Becher-Weg 45, D-55099 Mainz, Germany
In virtual Compton scattering, i. e. in the reaction p+γ* → p+γ, one measures the generalized polarizabilities of the proton. These polarizabilities, which depend on the momentum of the virtual photon, are an interesting property of the proton structure. A first dedicated experiment to investigate this reaction was performed at the three spectrometer facility at the Mainz Microtron MAMI for a fixed virtual photon momentum |q→|=600 MeV/c covering the energy range of the real photon from 33 to 111 MeV. We report on the measurements of the absolute cross sections, on the present status of the analysis and on the comparison to model calculations.
