A factorization and renormalization scheme independent formulation of the QCD evolution equations of deep-inelastic scattering structure functions is presented. We consider combined next-to-leading order evolution equations using the observables F2(x,Q2) and FL(x,Q2) as well as F2(x,Q2) and ∂ F2(x,Q2)/∂ logQ2. Numerical results are compared for both methods in a QCD analysis of deep-inelastic scattering data.
