Total and differential cross sections for high energy diffractive meson-proton scattering — •Edgar Berger — Institut fuer theoretische Physik, Philosophenweg 16, Heidelberg
Total and differential cross sections for high energy and small momentum transfer elastic meson-proton scattering are calculated, using a semiclassical approach. The hadronic amplitude is governed by the vacuum expectation value of lightlike Wegner-Wilson loops, for which a matrix cumulant expansion is derived. The cumulants are calculated within the framework of the Minkowskian version of the model of the stochastc vacuum (MSV). We show, how a projection into transverse space can be done for all cumulants. Using the second cumulant, we calculate total and differential cross sections for π p, Kp and γ p scattering. The agreement with experimental data is remarkably good.
