The hadron method of inclusive asymmetry calculation in SMC — •A. Tripet —
Fakultät für Physik, Universität Bielefeld, D-33501 Bielefeld
A new analysis method for obtaining inclusive data at low xbj has been developed by the Spin-Muon-Collaboration (SMC). This method, referred to as the “hadron method“, requires a hadron, in addition to the scattered muon, in the final state. In this way, true deep inelastic scattering events are selected, and the background coming from radiative events is strongly reduced. As a result of this, a reduction of statistical errors is achieved for xbj smaller than 0.02, compared to the standard analysis. For example in the first xbj bin (0.0008 < xbj < 0.0012 ) the error is reduced by ∼50%. Details of the method will be presented.
