The resonant dipole-dipole interaction of two-level atoms in cavities — •F. Burgbacher and J. Audretsch — Universität Konstanz, Fakultät für Physik, AG Audretsch, Fach M674, 78457 Konstanz
A quantum gas of two-level atoms in a cavity is considered. An expression for the resonant dipole-dipole-interaction of the atoms is derived in the bad cavity limit by eliminating the electromagentic field of the cavity in presence of a classical electromagnetic field. The result is, that in contrast to the free space case, the interaction of the atoms depends on the absolute position of the atoms in the cavity, and not on their distance. This is due to the broken translational symmetry.
