Relativistic Nonlinear Optics in Plasmas by 3D Particle-In-Cell simulations — •Alexander Pukhov and Juergen Meyer-ter-Vehn — MPQ, Hans-Kopfermann-Str.1, D-85748, Garching-bei-Muenchen
Nonlinear propagation of relativisticly intense subpicosecond laser pulses in underdense, nearly critical, and overdense plasmas is studied by means of 2D and 3D particle-in-cell simulations. The emphasis is made on new effects in the strongly relativistic regime (I>1018 W/cm2). We consider relativistic self-channeling, generation of 100 MG magnetic fields and acceleration of background electrons to multi-MeV energies.
