Atoms in Intense Fields: Towards Nonlinear XUV processes — •Pierre Agostini — Service des Photons Atomes et Molecules, CEA Saclay 91191 Gif sur Yvette France
The recent developments of intense DUV/XUV sources (High-order Harmonics, Laser Plasma, Xray Laser, Free Electron Laser) opens the road to nonlinear interactions in the XUV range. Multiphoton ionization of outershell electrons involving either one XUV photon, or two-DUV-photon has been observed from both laser plasma and harmonic generation. Applications of such processes to measurements of subpicosecond XUV pulses time profiles have been demonstrated. I will review the state-of-the-art of the various sources and the current status of experiments. Prospects for observing innershell multiphoton transitions using an Xray laser at 21.4 nm will be discussed. Finally, the possibility of observing atomic stabilization using ’4th-generation’ Free Electron Lasers will be examined.
