Using tunable linearly and circularly synchrotron radiation, we present magnetic dichroism measurements in the valence band region from Ni/W(110). Epitaxial Ni films have been evaporated at room temperature and characterized by LEED. It is well known that the easy magnetization axis of thin nickel films is oriented in-plane along the W[100] direction [1]. Our experimental data concerning the phenomena of magnetic linear and circular dichroism in the angular distribution of photoelectrons (MLDAD and MCDAD) are explained using fully relativistic band structure calculations. The spectra clearly show an energetic dispersion relating to the band structure. Thus, the influence of the photon energy on magnetic dichroism will be discussed.
