On teleparallelism theories of gravity and the Kaniel-Itin model — •Uwe Muench, Frank Gronwald, and Friedrich W. Hehl — Institute for Theoretical Physics, University of Cologne, D-50923 Köln, Germany
Recently, Kaniel and Itin [1] proposed a teleparallelism theory of gravity. In their action principle they constrain the variation of the coframe ϑα, demanding commutativity of the variation and the Hodge star: δ ⋆ϑα= ⋆δϑα. We find that this restriction allows only Lorentz-type variations of the coframe. Therefore the resulting field equation of the constrained variation leads to the antisymmetric part of a wave equation for ϑα, in contrast to the full wave equation as claimed in [1]. The Rosen-Yilmaz metric g=e−2m/r dt2−e2m/r (dx2 +dy2 +dz2), see [3], solves the tracefree part of the wave equation. Thus it is also a solution of the Kaniel and Itin model.
