In non-parabolic systems the magnetic field position of resonant transitions depends explicitly on the energy level of initial and final quantum states. Equivalent transitions in a multi-subband structure are therefore represented by a distribution of absorption lines along the field axis. The application of high magnetic fields (100 T) and large radiation energies (100 meV) on quantum wells in the 2D-to-3D transition range leads to characteristic lineshapes and finestructures under these conditions. With the Fermi level pinned system HgSe:Fe as a model substance cyclotron resonance lineshapes in quantum wells of various thicknesses have been investigated and numerically simulated. Experimental results obtained in fields up to 200 T are related to the structure and population of subbands as predicted by standard bandstructure calculations.
