Transport through quantum dots — •Leo Kouwenhoven — Department of Applied Physics, Delft University of Technology PO Box 5046, 2600GA Delft, The Netherlands
We performed electron transport experiments on quantum dots in which the electron number can be tuned from 0 to 1, 2, etc. The energy spectrum shows a shell structure similar to the shell structure in atoms. However, our ”artificial atoms” are 2D disks rather then the 3D atomic spheres. From the magnetic field dependence we can identify the quantum numbers, as for angular momentum and spin, of the many-body states.
