Valence band structure of α-MoTe2 determined by ARPES in the CFS mode — •Th. B"oker, A. M"uller, J. Augustin, C. Ribbat, C. Janowitz, and R. Manzke — Institut f"ur Physik, Humboldt-Universit"at zu Berlin, Invalidenstraße 110, D-10115 Berlin
MoTe2 belongs to the large family of layered transition metal
dichalcogenides (LTMD) whose crystal structure results from the stacking
of sheets of hexagonally packed atoms in the sequence Te-Mo-Te, Te-Mo-Te.
The band-structure of α-MoTe2 has been determined using
angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) in the constant final
state (CFS) mode. The angular and energy resolution is better than in
previous measurements [1] and therefore a more detailed study
of the complex valence band structure became possible. Additionally the
occurence of a rather dispersionless peak like in other LMTD
about 1eV below the VBM is observed
which can not be explained within the one particle-band structure. A
discussion of possible explanations about the origin of this state will
be given in addition to reference [2].
