Non-intrusive determination of gas emission source strengths — •Klaus Sch"afer — Fraunhofer-Institut (IFU), Kreuzeckbahnstr. 19, D-82467 Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrometry and Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (DOAS) as multi-component and path-averaging measurement methods provide new informations about emission rates of gas emission sources. Passive measurements can be made by detection of infrared radiation from warm exhaust plumes with a telescope from FTIR emission spectrometry. Using an infrared light source (glowbar) or a light source in the uv/vis (Xe lamp) the upwind and downwind concentrations near the gas emission source are measured from FTIR absorption spectrometry or DOAS to determine the source influence upon ambient air. Based on modified Gaussian dispersion modelling the emission rates are determined with these data and concurrent on-site meteorological measurements. Results of measurements are discussed.
