The 10B(n,α) standard — •A. Göpfert, F.-J. Hambsch, and H. Bax — JRC-IRMM, Retieseweg, B-2440 Geel, Belgium
The 10B(n,α) reference standard cross sections have recently received considerable attention as a result of their relatively poor database and the problem they caused in the ENDF/B-VI standards evaluation [1]. At higher neutron energies (above
50 keV) inconsistencies in the experimental results exist. Hence, an appreciable effort is presently ongoing at a number of major laboratories to improve and extend the standards database to higher energies. As a first step at IRMM the branching ratio, t
he ratio of the 10B(n,α0) to the 10B(n,α1) cross-sections is going to be measured. The existing problems will be shown and first results presented in view of the resolving power of the used ionization chamber detector system
and the final choice of 10B-sample thickness.
