Damping of giant dipole resonances in symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter — •U. Fuhrmann, K. Morawetz, R. Walke, and G. Röpke — AG Quantentheorie und Vielteilchensysteme, FB Physik, Universität Rostock, Universitätsplatz 3, D-18051 Rostock
The damping rates of hot giant resonances are investigated. The giant dipole resonance (GDR) in symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter [1] is described using the dielectric function (DF) in random phase approximation (RPA). We derive a dispersion relation whose complex solution provides us with the centroid energy and the damping width of giant resonances. With an extended appproach using a conserving relaxation time approximaion to include collision effects, different contributions to the damping of GDR will be discussed and compared with recent experimental data of hot GDR in Sn and Pb.
