We calculate the invariant amplitudes of the reactions γ p → n γ π⁺ and π⁻p → nγγ within the framework of heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory (HBChPT) using the O(p³) Lagrangian of Ecker and Mojzis [1]. The sensitivity of observables of the above processes to the pion polarizabilities and the extrapolation to the pion pole are discussed [2].
