Determination of the angular distribution of the characteristic γ-radiation in the p(n,γ)d reaction — •T.M. Müller1,2, D. Dubbers1,2, and O. Zimmer1 — 1Institut Laue-Langevin, B.P. 156, F-38042 Grenoble Cedex 9 — 2Physikalisches Institut, Philosophenweg 12, D-69120 Heidelberg
Two capture cross sections occur in the p(n,γ)d process whether the neutron is captured from the Singlett or Triplett free particle state of which the latter is forbidden.
The polarization [1] and angular distribution [2] of the characteristic γ-radiation emitted in this process yield information about these two capture cross sections and thus help to understand in more detail their contribution to the total capture cross section [3].
We measured at the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble (France) the angular distribution of the γ-quanta from the capture of polarized neutrons by polarized protons with their spins parallel to each other.
We present the results and discuss the constraints obtained for the size of the two capture cross sections of this process.
