By using on-line mass separation of evaporation residues produced by heavy-ion induced reactions, the population of isotopes near 100Sn has been studied. The experiment involved 5.5 MeV/u 58Ni+50Cr reactions followed by evaporation of light particles, and 6.6 MeV/u to 7.4 MeV/u 58Ni+58Ni reactions followed by emission of nuclear clusters with Z ≥ 3. The purpose of the experiment was to advance the understanding of the latter reaction mechanisms in comparison with the former, in particular concerning the production of exotic nuclei. To this aim the mass-separated beam intensities of 99Cd, 100In, 101Sn, 102In and 102Cd were measured at the GSI on-line mass separator. Preliminary results indicate that the reactions accompained by cluster emission show lower yields of these isotopes, compared to ‘standard’ light particle emission. Nevertheless they are characterized by large production cross-sections and interesting behaviour versus incident energy.
