The next generation of high resolution multi-detector arrays for nuclear spectroscopy employing highly segmented tracking detectors requires several hundred channels of digital signal processing electronics, which allow for on-line pulse shape analysis. Therefore a new, compact, and low-cost version of the Pulse Processing Analog to Digital Converter (PPADC) has been developed. It implements four digital processing channels as daughterboards on an ISA/PCI motherboard for the PC enviroment. Each daughterboard, measuring only 84x66mm, contains all hardware needed for high resolution processing and a detailed on-line pulse shape analysis: the analog signal conditioning, two 12bit sampling ADC’s with a combined sampling rate of up to 80 Msps, an in-circuit programmable logic device (PLD), and a high performance digital signal processor (DSP). Additional DSP’s on the motherboard perform the triggering and readout tasks.
