Among the processes to be studied at the recently commissioned ANKE facility at COSY is the deuteron breakup reaction with polarized beam and vector or tensor polarized target. The polarized internal gas target will be installed between the beam bending magnet D1 and the spectrometer magnet D2. The nuclear polarization is generated by a standard Stern-Gerlach type Atomic Beam Source ( ABS ). The status of the design and construc tion of the ABS will be reviewed together with selected aspects of the polarized experimental program of ANKE. Among the reactions being considered for detailed studies involving polarized beam and/or polarized target are: a) pp → d π+ (pn π+), b) pp→ p K+ Λ and c) polarization observables in pd elastic scattering, which would provide the necessary data base for polarimetry of beam and target.
