The even parity 5pnp (n=12−16) J=0,1,2 Rydberg series of Sr were investigated in an atomic beam by the isolated-core excitation (ICE) technique. Low intensity ICE spectra as well as "power spectra" were recorded for each n, in which Rydberg states with higher n were observed. Due to the strong mixing of the 5p1/2np with the 5p3/2np series, the spectra appear very complicated. In addition, spectra for different J values overlap strongly, making the level assignment very difficult. These problems were overcome by comparing the experimental spectra with theoretical ones, based on calculations combining the R-matrix and MQDT methods. Very good agreement between the

theoretical and experimental spectra was obtained.
