4d Photoionization of Free Singly Charged Xenon Ions — •Mathias Richter and Alexander Gottwald — Institut f|r Atomare und Analytische Physik, TU Berlin, Hardenbergstrasse 36, D-10623 Berlin, Germany

For the first time, electron spectroscopy obtained by direct continuum excitation of a free positive ion target was realized applying different timing and coincidence techniques to suppress and to online monitor strong fluctuating background. Our experiments were performed at the electron storage ring BESSY using dispersed undulator radiation in the spectral range of the VUV. The results refer to the investigation of the 4d photoionization of free singly charged xenon ions. The data are compared to corresponding results on atomic xenon to study the influence of the outer-shell electron occupation on the 4d inner-shell excitation process along the isonuclear series Xe, Xe+. Moreover, in comparison to isoelectronic iodine the 4d multiplet of Xe+ was discussed in terms of different coupling mechanisms.
