Atomic Physics with Highly Charged Ions at Lanzhou CSR — •X. Ma — Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Lanzhou,China — Gesellschaft f"ur Schwerionenforschung Darmstadt

New Cooler Storage Rings (CSR) will be constructed at the Institute of Modern Physics in Lanzhou. The facility consists of a main ring (CSRm) and an experimental ring (CSRe). In both of the rings, electron cooling will be employed. In the CSRm, the injected heavy ions will be accumulated, cooled, and accelerated to 900MeV/u for Carbon and to 400 MeV/u for Uranium ions, respectively. Thereafter, the ions will be extracted and stripped to higher charge-states, and finally, can be injected into the CSRe. Here, also radioactive ions can be used for experiments. The atomic physics program will cover the test of QED in high-Z few-electron ions, relativistic collisions of high-Z ions with atoms, Dielectronic Recombination experiments, and the interaction of the ions with electrons and laser-beams.
