Detailed knowledge about the structure of the electron shells in free atoms or ions is indispensable in many current problems in atomic physics. For example, it make it possible to study fairly complicated aspects of the interaction between electron shells, and the nucleus and to understand the results of the high precision experiments, especially by the double resonance laser-microwave spectroscopic methods. In recent years, we have developed the model of the description of the electronic structure of the complex atom on the basis of many coupled configurations with several open electronic shells (up to four). The model and its application for the most complex europium atom will be presented.
