Inner shell photoion-fluorescence coincidence spectroscopy of argon and xenon — •E.E. Rennie, U. Hergenhahn, O. Gessner, F. Heiser, A. Rüdel, and A. Hempelmann — Fritz-Haber-Institut der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, Faradayweg 4-6, 14195 Berlin

Inner shell PIFCO spectra have been obtained over the L2,3 edges of argon and the M4,5 edges of xenon. The measurements were performed on the HE-TGM-2 and CL-RCM beamlines at the Berlin BESSY I synchrotron radiation source. Fluorescence photons in the 250-1550 Angstrom range were detected in coincidence with ions in various degrees of ionisation. Partial yields (PY) and branching ratios (BR) have been extracted and are compared to the PY and BR of previous inner shell photoionisation mass spectrometry. In particular, attention has been focused on the differences between the ion curves over the pre-threshold resonances and in the continumn. Significant differences can be seen when comparing all ions, i.e. previous photoionisation work, with those which are detected in coincidence with a fluorescence photon. Discrimination of the fluorescence photons allows us to reveal different time scales in the production of the Ar ionic states.
