Modifications of Einstein’s gravity with implications for late cosmology — •Christof Wetterich — Inst. Theor. Phys, Universität Heidelberg
Modifications of the long distance behavior of gravity which are compatible with known tests of general relativity are investigated. One possibility are nonlocal terms in the effective gravitational action which may cure the problem of unboundedness of the Euclidean Einstein action. Another concerns cosmologically decaying scalar fields which lead to a coherent contribution to the energy density of the universe today. The corresponding cosmological solutions are attractors for late times and therefore natural.
