Femtosecond experiments on Rydberg state dynamics in polyatomic molecules — •Maurice H.M. Janssen, Wim Roeterdink, Anouk Rijs, Gregory Bazalgette, and Steven Stolte — Laser Centre and Chemistry Department, Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
We are studying the ultrafast photoinduced (pre)dissociation dynamics of Rydberg-states in small polyatomic molecules like methyl iodide, methyl bromide and tri-fluor methyl iodide. Pump-probe femtosecond experiments in a cold pulsed molecular beam at 1 kHz repetition rate with time-of-flight mass selected ion detection are reported. Several different pump and probe wavelengths are used to investigate the vibronic dependence of the (pre)dissociation dynamics. These experiments explore the multi-dimensional Rydberg-state surfaces and provide insight on the evolution of the excited wavepacket into the dissociation continuum.
