Conformal field theory approach to moduli spaces of branes — •A. Recknagel — Max-Planck-Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences, Inselstr. 22, 04103 Leipzig
D-branes are the central objects in the new developments in string theory. We use conformal field theory on surfaces with boundary in order to give a background independent microscopic description of generalized branes. Target space geometry is not used as an input but re-appears through the study of D-brane moduli spaces. We develop a general theory of marginal deformations of conformal boundary conditions and discuss simple examples whose moduli spaces display “stringy” features.
