New Selfconsistent Approach to Nonlinear Plasma Oscillations in Correlated Plasmas — •Michael Bonitz, Dirk Semkat, and Nai-Hang Kwong — Universit"at Rostock, Fachbereich Physik, D-18051 Rostock
Inspired by the semiconductor Bloch equations, we present an
extension of the underlying concept to more complicated systems.
The Bloch equations allow for an efficient treatment of two-particle bound
states (excitons etc.) in terms of one-particle quantities
(Wigner distribution and interband polarizations). This picture is
much simpler than the conventional two-particle description
based on the Bethe-Salpether equation. We give a detailed
comparison of the two approaches and discuss their respective
advantages and limitations [1].
We demonstrate how the multi-band concept can be extended to the description
of plasma oscillations, including nonlinear effects as well as the
influence of correlations among the carriers, thereby “automatically”
preserving consistency requirements, such as conservation laws and sum
rules.
