Non-classical Atomic Spin States and Entanglement — •Eugene Polzik — Aarhus University, 8000, Aarhus, Denmark
Quantum correlations and entanglement between individual atoms of an ensemble lead to the non-classical collective spin states of atoms and ions. Such states offer a possibility to overcome quantum limits of sensitivity in various atomic physics experiments. Recent progress in expermintal generation and observation of multi-atom spin squeezed states will be reviewed. A method for mapping of the non-classical entanglement carried by light onto an atomic ensemble will be discussed in detail. A proposal for generation of distant macroscopic entangled atomic ensembles will be described. The relevance of this research to atomic frequency standards and to the storage of quantum entanglement will be outlined.
