Quantum revivals in a periodically driven gravitational cavity — •F. Saif, G. Alber, V. Savichev, and W.P. Schleich — Abteilung für Quantenphysik, Universität Ulm, D-89069 Ulm

The dynamics of an atom in a periodically driven gravitational cavity is investigated. It is demonstrated that quantum mechanical revival phenomena are observable in this physical system up to a maximum critical field strength. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that the characteristic revival time of this periodically driven system depends significantly on the amplitude and frequency of the periodic driving force. Quantitatively this dependence can be explained successfully in simple terms with the help of semiclassical methods. The results of this semiclassical approach are in excellent agreement with numerical simulations.
