Test-beam Results on CMS Silicon Tracker Prototype Detectors — •S. Piperov — Humboldt Universität zu Berlin — CERN, Geneva, Switzerland

The Silicon Tracker of the CMS experiment at CERN is in its last design stage. Final choices of substrate material, strip pitch and implant width, and biasing scheme have to be done before November 1999.

A study of the silicon sensor parameter space was carried out on full-sized prototype detectors with strip pitches varying from 60 to 240µ m, strip implants covering the width/pitch range from 0.13 to 0.5 in [111] and [100] oriented substrates with resistivities between 1 and 6 kΩ cm. Both AC- and DC-coupled versions of the devices were tested before and after irradiation with neutrons and protons up to fluences equivalent to 10 years of operation at LHC.

Results from the analysis of the data obtained in a set of beam-tests with these prototypes, performed at CERN’s SPS accelerator during the summer of 1998, are presented here.
