We present a SANS study of quenched H-polyisoprene (PI) melts under strain.
The deformed polymer melt will be rapidly quenched to below its glass transition temperature using a new stretching device designed and built in Juelich, and the scattering pattern taken. This device is compatible with SANS experimental configurations and allows a good control of the temperature (in the range 173 K ; 473 K), stretching and quenching conditions.
The interpretation of the scattering function in terms of an extented Random Phase Approximation theory will allow to extract the tube diameter in which the arms fluctuate, directly from the anisotropy of the scattering.
The experiments will be performed in Juelich, on anionically prepared PI of H-type structure of which the ends of the arms are labelled. Quenching permits then the study of the short time structure up to a few Rouse times.
