It is often argued that, given the content matter, some research should be devoted to methods that would be appropriate to teach this matter. Two examples of didactic research at university level, bearing on the principle of superposition in electrostatics and on waves, will be used to show how research on students difficulties, and subsequent design and evaluation of remediating sequences, may conduct one to revisiting physics itself. The outcomes of this fact will be discussed along two lines: need for multidimensionality in the assessment of teaching sequences, and utility of didactics in teacher training.
