Dynamical Response of Vibrating Ferromagnetic Reeds — •E. Gaganidze1, P. Esquinazi1, and M. Ziese2 — 1Abt. Supraleitung und Magnetismus, Universität Leipzig, 04103 Leipzig — 2Physics Department, University of Sheffield, Sheffield S3 7RH, United Kingdom
The resonance frequency of a ferromagnetic reed vibrating in a
homogeneous field can be substantially modified by intrinsic
and extrinsic field-dependent contributions. The aim of this
work is the detailed study of the influence of the magnetic
state and the field-sample configuration on the dynamical
behavior of a ferromagnetic reed. We have measured amorphous
and polycrystalline reeds in the ferromagnetic and spin-glass
states and for different geometries. We show that in transversal
geometry the decrease of the resonance frequency is rather
independent of the material characteristics. Large changes of
the field dependence of the resonance frequency are observed
when the field is tilted a few degrees. With a model [1] based
on the macroscopic magnetisation we can understand
quantitatively the measured dependence. We discuss the
contribution of magnetoelasticity and the so-called
Δ E effect.
