Cathodoluminescence studies on the green 2.3 eV band in diamond — •N. Teofilov, K. Thonke, and R. Sauer — Abteilung Halbleiterphysik, Universit"at Ulm, 89069 Ulm
The broad so-called A-band luminescence in natural IIb and synthetic high-pressure high temperature(HPHT) diamond crystals was recently shown to consist of a green 2.3 eV band ascribed to the presence of boron and a blue 2.8 eV bound ascribed to dislocations. We have performed cathodoluminescence (CL) measurements on the 2.3 eV band varying the sample temperature from 20 K to 300 K. There are indications of several thermally activated processes competing with the recombination at 2.3 eV. Around room temperature, this band disappears being replaced by a novel band ≈ 0.2 eV higher in energy.
