Layered transition metal dichalcogenides provide a possibility to intercalate guest atoms between sheets of chalcogenides. We report an angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy study of the valence band electronic structure of the layered compound TiSe2 as well as for in situ intercalated TiSe2 with rare earth elements (RE’s). Experimental results are compared with LDA-LCAO band-structure calculations. The experimental data show clearly that the character of the valence band changes from 3D to 2D upon intercaltion. This behavior, however, is only in a fair agreement with the results of the band structure calculations.
