We have studied the electronic structure of the perovskite manganese oxides, La1−xBaxMnO3 and LaMnO3 by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray Emission Spectroscopy (XES). The Mn 3d and O 2p electronic state distribution is established. The strong hybridization between the Mn 3d and O 2p states is observed. It is found that the Mn 3d (eg↓) states are localised near the Fermi level and they appeared in the XPS measurements as a well pronounced peak. It was established that the nonstoichiometry in LaMnO3+δ samples is determined by defects in the metals positions. The Mn 3s spectra for all compounds are analysed and the high-spin electron configuration is found. The experimental results are compared with the band structure calculations.
