The investigation of ultrathin layer structures allows to address the correlation between the electronic structure, magnetism, and atomic geometry in the solid state. Epitaxial Mn films (1-30 ML) have been grown on Cu3Au(100) and have been investigated by angle-resolved photoemission with synchrotron radiation. These films present a very sharp LEED pattern, which previous investigations [1] show to derive from a fcc-Mn lattice. The photoemission spectra of the fcc-Mn films display two well-defined structures, located at 2.5 eV and 0.1 eV binding energies. The Mn photoemission structures do not show energy dispersion with photon energy or emission angle. This observation is in sharp contrast with the behaviour of the later (fcc-Fe, -Co, -Ni, -Cu) 3d-metals. The present results point out the inadequacy of a single-particle picture and the importance of electron correlation in the description of this Mn system.
