Double-differential cross section in the reaction Li + HF → LiF + H — •Olaf Höbel and Hansjürgen Loesch — Fakultät für Physik, Universität Bielefeld, Universitätsstrasse 25, D-33615 Bielefeld, Germany
Angular and time-of-flight distributions of the products formed
in the reaction Li + HF → LiF + H have been measured
in a crossed beam experiment for various energies ranging from
120 to 360 meV. From these data we have deduced the
double-differential cross-section in the center-of-mass frame
using the technique of fixed velocity transformation. All the
measurements exhibit preferred forward scattering of the
products LiF. With decreasing energy a backward peak occurs
which reaches at 120 meV 50% of the height of the forward
one. The forward/backward peak ratio deviates from the findings
of an earlier experimental work1. Our results are in fair
agreement with quasiclassical trajectory (QCT) calculations2
based on the potential energy surface (PES) of Aguado et
al.3. QCT studies2 using the PES of Lagana et al.4
are at variance with our results.
