Supersonic planar plasma expansions - a new tool for molecular spectroscopy — •Harold Linnartz — Institute for Physical Chemistry, Klingelbergstrasse 80, CH-4056 Basel

Absorption spectroscopy in slit nozzle plasmas has several important advantages compared to experiments using discharge cells. Especially, the formation of such radical species that are barely formed with standard plasma techniques, as cluster ions or radical chains, should be mentioned. In this contribution an overview will be given on different planar plasma techniques with applications varying from high resolution IR spectroscopy on ionic complexes [1], submillimeter [2] and FTMW [3] spectroscopy on molecular ions to electronic spectroscopy of carbon chain radicals both in cw [4] and pulsed laser [5,6] experiments.
