Rydberg series of H3 converging to various rovibrationally excited ionic thresholds are investigated experimentally and theoretically. Autoionizing high principal quantum number Rydberg states of a H3 are excited using a two-photon excitation scheme from the metastable level 2pA2". To interpret the measured spectra we use the MQDT model which includes rotational[1], vibrational and Jahn-Teller coupling mechanisms[2]. From the Rydberg spectra we also gain insight into the intermediate state. We propose the assignment of two n=3 states of H3 as a doublet 3pE′(ν 2=1) splitted by the Jahn-Teller effect. We also investigate the lineshape in two-photon ionization via low n Rydberg states. The structure of the spectral lines reflects the dynamics of the Rydberg states in the pulsed laser field.
