The first high resolution infrared spectra of the ionic complexes N2-H+-N2 (and deuterated derivative N2-D+-N2+ [1]) and N2-Ar+-N2 are reported. The spectra are obtained in direct absorption in a supersonic slit nozzle plasma, employing electron impact ionization and production modulation. The observed transitions are assigned to the anti-symmetric NN stretching vibration. The spectra are consistent with a linear centro-symmetric structure. The assignment is supported by ab initio calculations that provide additional information currently not accessible to the experiment.
