A method for attosecond pulse measurememt — •Thomas Brabec, Michael Geissler, and Armin Scrinzi — Photonics Institute, Vienna University of Technology, Gusshausstrasse 27-29, A-1040 Vienna, Austria
Measurement of sub-10 fs pulses is an unsolved problem to date. We present a technique for the measurement of attosecond pulses based on cross correlation between a strong laser pulse and an attosecond pulse in a noble gas. The feasibility of this method is studied by a numerical solution of the 3-D Schrödinger equation for a He+ ion. The technique fundamentally differs from previously performed multiphoton cross correlation measurements, the resolution of which is limited by the laser pulse duration. In contrast to that, the resolution limit of our method lies at about one tenth of the optical period of the laser pulse (approx. 250 attoseconds).
