Continuous-Wave Optical Parametric Oscillators: Devices and Spectroscopy — •Stephan Schiller — Institut für Experimentalphysik, Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf, Universitätsstr. 1, D-40225 Düsseldorf
The potential of c.w. OPOs as sources of spectrally pure tunable coherent radiation has been recognized a long time ago. Only recently, however, the devices have matured sufficiently for use in spectroscopy, thanks to improvements and new developments in nonlinear materials, pump sources, coatings, frequency stabilization techniques and device configurations. This talk will concentrate on single-frequency c.w. OPOs, which are now able to generate radiation from the near-IR to the mid-IR and, by additional frequency conversion, also in the visible. Linewidths below 160 kHz, strong suppression of mode-hops, low frequency drift (less than 30 MHz/h) and continuous frequency tunability have been demonstrated, with powers up to several 100 mW. Demonstrated and future applications to high resolution molecular and atomic spectroscopy will be discussed.
