Semiclassical and Quantum Dynamics of “Designer” Atoms — •Joachim Burgdörfer — Institute for Theoretical Physics, Vienna University of Technology, Vienna, Austria
Recent progress in the controlled fabrication of microscopic semiconductor heterostructures affords the opportunity to study scattering processes on a mesoscopic scale. They provide an ideal laboratory for the study of classical-quantum correspondence and of the semiclassical limit of quantum scattering. Quantum dots play the role of “designer atoms” whose shape and size can be freely chosen. We will give an overview over recent theoretical developments in the semiclassical and quantum description of electron scattering at designer atoms.
