ARTS — A Modular Atmospheric Radiative Transfer System — •Stefan Bühler1 and Patrick Eriksson2 — 1Institute of Environmental Physics, University of Bremen, Germany — 2Department of Radio and Space Science, Chalmers University of Technology, Göteborg, Sweden
A new atmospheric radiative transfer model for the long wavelength spectral range (from millimeter waves to far infrared) is currently being developed as a joint project of the groups of the two authors. The model is intended to be used for simulation studies and data analysis of limb and nadir sounding instruments in this frequency range.
The requirements for the new model are modularity and generality. The former means that the model can easily be extended with new modules to incorporate new physics or new instrument parameters. The latter means that the model is applicable for all observation geometries and over a frequency range that is much wider than that of previous models.
The poster presents an outline of the new model and explains how these requirements are met.
