HYDRA: a ROOT-based analysis framework for HADES — •M. Sánchez1, D. Bertini2, T. Eberl3, L. Fabbietti3, B. Fuentes1, R. Holzmann2, L. Kidon4, I. Koenig2, A. Nekhaev2, W. Przygoda3,4, W. With the aim to study dilepton production in heavy-ion, as well as proton– and pion–induced reactions at SIS, the high-acceptance di-electron spectrometer HADES features close to 73,000 readout channels and a taped data rate of about 1 Mbyte/s, leading to a raw data volume of 1–2 Tbyte/year. To handle the full HADES online/offline data analysis the object-oriented HYDRA framework has been developed. It is entirely written in C++ and is based on the ROOT classes [1], making full and consistent use of all features of this new software package. The geometry, setup and calibration parameters needed by the analysis are maintained in a relational ORACLE data base. The framework has been successfully applied to analyze simulated events and beam data from the 1999 commissioning runs.

Further work is now concentrating on the implementation of high-level analysis algorithms, such as fast hit finders, ring finders, trackers, and particle identification.
