The η′ in baryon chiral perturbation theory — •Buḡra Borasoy — Physik Department -T39, TU München, 85747 Garching
In order to improve our understanding of the axial U(1) anomaly and gluonic contributions in low-energy hadron physics, it is necessary to include the η′ as a dynamical field variable in the effective field theory. In this talk, I incorporate the η′ in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory in a systematic fashion. The effective Lagrangian describing the interaction of the lowest lying baryon octet with the Goldstone boson octet and the η′ is presented up to linear order in the derivative expansion. As explicit examples, the baryon masses and the π N σ-term are calculated up to one-loop order in the heavy baryon formulation. A systematic expansion in the meson masses is possible, and appearing divergences are renormalized.
